Automated, adaptive indoor climate systems

On average, people spend around 80–90% of their lives inside buildings. Therefore, buildings have to provide a healthy and comfortable environment for their occupants. At the same time it is also important to reduce energy demand and increase energy efficiency.

Buildings should be able to quickly react and adapt themselves to real-time requirements coming from weather, tenants or operations. The building environment control system should be highly automated, based on data intelligence and prediction methods.

Manage air quality to limit the spread of COVID-19

Many associations and governmental bodies (for example REHVA) have recently published the indications for controlling indoor air quality in relation to the transmission of the COVID-19 virus infection (SARS-CoV-2).

To limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus epidemic, it is essential to guarantee the indoor air quality for the protection of tenants and workers. Equally important is to do it in a sustainable way.

Less air changes favor indoor exposure to pollutants and can facilitate the transmission of pathogens between people. Proper ventilation management helps to limit the spread of COVID-19.

It is therefore necessary to:

  •  introduce external air to replace and renew the  indoor air, by diluting / reducing the concentrations of specific pollutants (e.g. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), PM particulate material, CO2, humidity and biological aerosol
  •  lower the CO2 concentration as an indicator of the density of occupation of the environment
  •  guarantee thermohygrometric comfort: temperature and humidity

Electrex: Complete Solutions ProviderEnergy-monitoring-network

Electrex offers a complete solution allowing to monitor and control both energy vectors and environmental parameters.

A solution where software, energy analyzers and sensors are seamlessly integrated and have built-in, distributed intelligence to automatically adapt the indoor climate in an energy efficient way.

With a single solution we improve:

  • Health: alerting in case of threats and  controlling systems to keep the indoor environment safe.
  • Comfort: we increase the quality of life for the building tenants automatically adjusting energy systems and environmental parameters.
  • Energy Efficiency: energy consumption is strongly correlated with environmental parameters. With our solution we monitor and control the energy systems that are used to maintain your building comfortable.

Electrex Sensing Solutions

The Electrex sensing solutions monitor and control key environmental parameters such as ambient temperature, contact temperature 🌡️, humidity 💧, luminosity 🔆, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) 😷, particulate matter (PM1.0, PM2.5, PM4, PM10), CO2 and air pressure 💨. The same solutions can send notifications / alarms, control HVAC systems and automate processes while managing energy consumption in a sustainable way.

AMBIENT / CONTACT TEMPERATURE and HUMIDITY
Thermal comfort is an important factor in climate control systems.
Knowing the current temperature and humidity allows us to adjust HVAC systems.

AMBIENT LUMINOSITY
Visual comfort is strictly related with health issues and productivity but it is also the main energy consumption voice in many buildings.
Dimmable lighting systems need to monitor in real-time luminosity in order to automatically adjust power consumption while maintaining the visual comfort.

VOCs
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are indoor pollutants that can cause headaches, eye irritation or dizziness. They are found in many products we use to build and maintain our buildings (vinyl flooring, adhesives, dry cleaning, etc. ).
PM2.5 and PM10 for example and are among the most dangerous air pollutants. Due to their small size, PM2.5 particles can travel deep into the human lung and cause a variety of health issues. VOC sensors are critical for avoiding that indoor air quality is damaged to a degree that is harmful for the occupants.

CO2
Carbon dioxide is the principal indicator for indoor air quality. CO2 concentration is becoming an issue in indoor public spaces as a side-effect of better building insulation (for example in shopping malls, multiplexes, etc.).
In these cases ventilation should be activated according to the air quality and not just following schedulers.

PRESSURE AND DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE
Air pressure monitoring is actively used in order to create specific pressurized zones (or the complete building) keeping those safe from external polluted air. This is the case of applications in hospitals and food processing plants for example. The same sensors can be used also for monitoring the efficiency of ventilation systems.

Electrex Sensing Solutions

Sensors

In addition to the energy analyzers the Electrex monitoring and control solutions may also include environmental parameter sensors.

The sensors can be connected:

  • as wireless nodes at 2.4 Ghz or  868MHz;

The Electrex devices can have built-in and / or external sensors (via Sensor Input port using I2C bus).

The variety of sensors allow us to build applications for monitoring  indoor / outdoor environmental parameters in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors. They are available in different models: wall mount, small box-shaped enclosure or without an enclosure (bare sensor).

Our sensor devices can be equipped with built-in I-O and their advanced firmware allows to configure multiple alarms also on the same parameter as well as correct the positioning bias applying an offset / gain to the real measurement.
