Knowing the operating time of a load/appliance is useful for a proper management of the maintenance activity but also a fundamental information for an effective Energy Management System (EnMS).
Indeed, in order to monitor the energy efficiency, as suggested from the ISO 50001 normative, it is necessary to make use of the Energy Performance Indicators (KPI or EnPI).
Therefore it is not enough to measure just the consumption of energy when implementing an energy efficiency program.
The energy use must be monitored according to other key parameters related to the unit analyzed as: the turnover, the quantity produced, the number of services produced, the effective functioning time of the load/appliance, etc.
An important requirement in this case is that all the devices used for measuring must have the same time reference (synchronized clock).
For example let’s analyze the lighting system of an office.
With the new Electrex energy analyzers of the Exa and Kilo family (but also with the Femto family devices) in addition to the measuring of the energy consumed it is possible to obtain also the functioning time .
Using our energy management software Energy Brain it is possible to activate, within the Electrex device, a partial time counter triggered every time the Power consumption exceeds a certain threshold . The same counter can be triggered also by the ON/OFF state of an electrical contact.
Therefore, after a significant period (hour, day, week, month, season, year, etc.), it is possible to detect not only how much energy has been consumed for lighting but also the functioning time the lighting system.
If energy analyzer is connected to a gateway data logger ( Yocto net , Kilo net , Exa net or Femto 70A net ) including the ‘ Upgrade 4You ’ function, it is also possible to display on a web page a chart with both: the curve of the energy consumed and the effective functioning time synchronized (referring to the same clock).
As shown in the image above, the chart can be displayed from any device with a browser (smartphone, tablet, PC, etc.) allowing a remote monitoring as well.
