As a result they fail more often.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>End users are much more aware of the impact poor power quality can have in terms of downtime and equipment damage.<\/p>\n<p>Every electrical network and its problems with Power Quality are unique and need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>planning of the measurement campaign,<\/li>\n<li>preparing the site,<\/li>\n<li>measuring activity,<\/li>\n<li>and finally understanding where the problem is.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Measurement of power quality requires the use of proper instrumentation to suit the application.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Retroactive vs Proactive approach<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When dealing with PQ problems there are two main approaches: permanent vs temporary monitoring systems.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the main limits of the\u00a0 <strong>temporary<\/strong> power quality monitoring systems is that you are not able to detect short-term, non periodic PQ events (sags , swells, interruptions, etc.) should these events happen outside of the usual two week measurement period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also a retroactive approach where measurements are made after the customer complaints or problems have already impacted your system.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not being able to identify all the PQ events and acting after damages occur means that you fail to provide a continuous improvement solution.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <strong>permanent<\/strong> power quality monitoring system instead detects and records all the power quality disturbances continuously.
